Trillo, Morgan do nothing to advance GOP

To the Editor:
We have an unusual situation in the Rhode Island Republican Party.
We have a process for those who wish to advance in the party and run for office.
Former State Rep. Joseph Trillo bypassed his fellow Republicans by putting his gubernatorial aspirations in an independent bid. Clearly he did not respect our party, a party that has honored him with multiple distinctions.
State Rep. Patricia Morgan who was the Rhode Island House Minority Leader until stripped of that office by her GOP caucus, did not accept the verdict of her fellow Rhode Island
Republicans after losing the gubernatorial primary to Mayor Allan Fung. State Rep. Morgan, like Mr. Trillo, has had multiple honors through the GOP. She did not attend the Republican “State Convention”, or even appear before the nominating committee of the state party. Their actions are self-centered, and they do nothing to advance the Republican Party.
I have both won and lost elections. I dealt with it. Those with political aspirations clash with others that have the same aspirations. That is politics.
Any suggestion the party nominations were a “done deal”, insults the thousands of Republican voters that voted in the September primary. The bottom line is this, neither Rep. Morgan nor Mr. Trillo, if he had run in the primary could muster the support Mayor Fung had.
I will vote for Mayor Fung four times this year. At the nominating committee of the state party, the “state convention”, the recent primary, and the upcoming general election.
No candidate is perfect, but he has the elected executive experience, understands issues local government face, and other attributes. Dependability, loyalty, and political support is an attribute Mayor Fung has in abundance. Rhode Island is a Democratic state, Mayor Fung appears clearly the best candidate the Republicans could run to beat Governor Gina Raimondo. Even in Cranston, one election the Democrats could not come up with an opponent against him for the mayoralty. He has shown he can work with Democrats, as they usually have controlled the city council in Cranston during his mayoralty.
Vote Fung on November 6!
