Truly interested in community?

With the local elections heating up and candidates jockeying for support, I could not keep from voicing an opinion on how our political contenders are, or are not, going after the votes. As an active member of the Conimicut Village Association, I would like to note that we are always welcoming new members and public support in our challenges to maintain our community and improve our village.

We meet monthly for one hour and listen to our Community Police Officer Dan Maggiacomo report on the village, hear Councilman Joe Solomon discuss city information and have our State Senator Mike McCaffrey tell us what is happening in the state. If we have any questions or concerns, this is the venue best to convey your comments.

Never have I seen any of our aspiring candidates who are trying to win over our vote show up to our meetings, and only when they are glad-handing have they come to any of our almost monthly events. If you are truly interested in what is happening in the community you wish to represent, why would you not come and show your support and be active with the people you want to lead?

I recognize candidates cannot be everywhere before an election, but we have been meeting for years and for only one hour a month. It is hardly going to consume your schedule. There are several associations in Warwick that are similar to ours, and all would welcome the attendance and participation of someone who would like to represent them.
