United Way seeks nonprofit participants for Executive Director Learning Circle series

As part of its commitment to strengthening the state’s nonprofit sector, United Way of Rhode Island (UWRI) is currently recruiting participants for the latest installment of its innovative Executive Director Learning Circle series. Applications may be completed online and will be accepted through December 3. Space in the multi-month educational series is limited to 20 participants.

Designed specifically for executive directors of Rhode Island-based nonprofits with annual budgets less than $1 million, the series’ curriculum was developed to help organizations increase capacity and improve the delivery of services. Over the course of 11 sessions, nonprofit leaders will engage in practical scenario sharing, group activities and discussions, and benefit from coaching in a wide-range of competency topics. Among the topics covered are strategic planning, fund development, board engagement, marketing and communications, risk management, and emergency preparedness.

Additionally, graduates of the program will be able to apply their experience toward credits for a BA or MA at Roger Williams University’s School of Studies Community Development program.

The Executive Director Learning Circle is led by facilitator Michael Fournier, a retired nonprofit executive with nearly four decades of experience in various senior leadership positions. As a long-time consultant, Michael works with numerous organizations throughout Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts with a focus on executive coaching and capacity building.

The series’ sessions begin on Friday, January 18, 2019, and will continue monthly on the third Friday of each month from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Each session will be held in the Conference Center at UWRI’s 50 Valley Street headquarters in Providence. The series has a participation fee of $200, and those interested in applying may do so online in advance of the December 3 deadline. The program is being made possible by support from BankNewport, which has committed $40,000 per year for three years to deliver the initiative.
