Up Close on Hope is back for another season of exciting, groundbreaking ballet

Unlike any other dance experience, Up Close on Hope is a chance for audiences to enjoy the thrill and talent of ballet Up Close in the intimate Black Box Theater. Join the Festival Ballet Providence Company as they present a wide variety of new works in this spectacular program that you won't want to miss.

You will especially love the two pieces by George Birkadze that are featured on tomorrow evening's program. The U.S. Premiere of “Taming of the Shrew” will make you laugh. It will be performed by Emily Loscocco and Ilya Burov. Birkadze choreographed the piece originally for ABT stars for their Spanish tour in 2006. The original cast was Erica Cornejo and Cory Stearns.

Mr. Birkadze's other work, a world premiere, will blow you away. Dynamite is a high-energy contemporary work that pushes the limits of classical technique and speed. The piece incorporates hip-hop and martial arts movement (Birkadze is himself an avid martial artist).

Up Close on Hope will be presented Oct. 26 and 27 and Nov. 2 and 3. Performances begin at 8 p.m. on Fridays and 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays. The FBP Black Box Theater is located at 825 Hope Street on the vibrant East Side of Providence.

In addition to seeing the exciting and diverse works of eight choreographers, the audience will be treated to complementary hors d'ouevres from local restaurants and wine. This weekend, Pauly Penta's Gourmet Italian Deli and Pizzico will be catering the intermission receptions. Wine is graciously provided by Laurine Ryan Perry and RI Distributors.
