Vasa Day celebration is Sept. 8 in Foster


On Saturday, Sept. 8, Rhode Island District No. 3, Vasa Order of America, a Swedish-American Fraternal Organization, will hold its annual Vasa Day at Little Rhody Vasa Park, Boswell Trail in Foster. The park will open at noon and opening ceremonies are at 1, with the flags of the United States, Sweden, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway being raised. The food tables will offer herring sandwiches, hot dogs, pizza, corn chowder, Swedish meatballs on a stick, Limpa bread and Swedish coffee bread. There will also be a Tombola table, children’s games, activities and raffle prizes.

The King and Queen will be crowned at 2 and children’s games at 3. Susan McLeod, orchestra of one, will entertain from 3 to 5. A baked ham dinner will be served at 5. Adult tickets are $12.50 and children 6 to 12 are $4 ($2 for afternoon only). Dinner reservations are needed by Sept. 4. Call Janice P. at 294-4759, Carl H. at 885-9356 or Vivian V. at 934-1069.
