With more patients looking to receive care out of their homes rather than in a hospital, the Visiting Nurse Association of Care New England is hosting a “Nursing in the Community” seminar series starting next week.

The seminar, hosted by the VNA, is in partnership with Kent Hospital, an approved Provider Unit of Continuing Nursing Education by the Northeast Multi-State Division (NE-MSD), an Accredited Approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. The seminars will focus on future trends in community-based healthcare as well as career opportunities and benefits as a visiting nurse, including loan forgiveness, flexible daytime hours and sign-on bonus.

The series, which will feature three seminars on April 27, May 18 and June 14, will feature three separate respected nursing leaders in Rhode Island as guest speakers to discuss continuing education programs.

The first seminar on April 27 will be Lynn P. Blanchette, PhD, RN, Program Director, BSN Program at Rhode Island College School of Nursing.

Diane Cocozza Martins, PhD, RN, Associate Professor, University of Rhode Island College of Nursing, will speak on May 18 and Joanne F. Costello, PhD, MPH, RN, Professor, Rhode Island College of Nursing, will speak on June 14th.

Kathleen Peirce, vice president of clinical operations, executive director, chief nursing officer, VNA of Care New England, said, “This promises to be an exciting seminar series for the many nurses in our area looking to learn more about community-based health care and the exciting career opportunities available to them. The opportunity to hear from nursing leaders on the future of community nursing, while exploring firsthand exciting new community-based nursing opportunities presents attendees with tremendous opportunity and access to those helping shape the future of this time-honored profession.”

Each seminar in the “Nursing in the Community” series is eligible for one contact hour.

The Nursing in the Community Seminar Series will take place at the Kent Hospital Doctors’ Auditorium, 455 Toll Gate Road, Warwick, on April 27, from 12 to 2:30 p.m., May 18, 4p.m. to 7 p.m. and June 14, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The seminars will take place at Kent Hospital Doctors’ Auditorium, 455 Toll Gate Rd.
