Walter R. Perry, Sr.


Walter R. Perry, Sr., age 85, of Warwick, died on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of the late Norma A. (DeCesare) Perry.

A son of the late Alder A. and Ethel M. (Becker) Perry, he lived in Warwick for most of his life. Mr. Perry was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, and served in North Africa. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, a past Department Commander of the American Legion, and a life member and past Commander of William Shields Post #43 American Legion. He was also a member of Kelley & Gazzero Post V.F.W. and the Italian American War Veterans. Mr. Perry was employed as a machinist at Amtrol, Inc. in East Greenwich for several years before retiring in 1991. He previously worked as a machinist and supervisor at United Wire in Cranston for 28 years.

He is survived by a son, Walter R. Perry, Jr. of North Kingstown; two sisters, Dorothy L. Timpani and Margene E. Shaw, both of Warwick; his loving companion, Juanita A. Scuncio of Warwick; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was the brother of the late Alder A. Perry, Jr., Robert P. Perry, Earl A. Perry, and Ruth H. Babbitt.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, May 12, at 8:30 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Ave., Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. William Church, Pettaconsett Ave., Warwick. Visiting hours are Friday 4-8 p.m.

Burial with military honors will be in the Rhode Island Veterans’ Cemetery, Exeter. Contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
