DUI

Just after 2 p.m. on Dec. 23, Officer Derek Mourato and other officers responded to a two-car accident in the area of 87 West Natick Road.

Mourato made contact with one of the operators involved, and he reports detecting the odor an alcoholic beverage on the woman’s breath. The officer describes the woman’s speech as “slurred and mumbled” and her movements as “slow and delayed.”

The operator is said to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which she reportedly failed.

Camille A. Buffi, 61, 145 Briggs St., Providence, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, she is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

Buffi was later released into the custody of a sober adult and issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. She was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test and intervals between vehicles.

At the scene, Austin observed a 2018 Hyundai Elentra located directly in front of the building’s entrance. The vehicle had “driven up the handicap ramp almost striking the building,” according to the officer.

The vehicle was running, Austin reports, while a woman was seated in the driver’s seat speaking on her cell phone. The officer reports that he asked the woman to exit the vehicle, at which point she became “extremely aggressive and combative.”

The woman was handcuff and detained in the rear of Austin’s cruiser. The officer reports that a “strong odor” of alcohol emanated from the woman’s breath and she showed other signs of intoxication, including “very mumbled” speech and “extremely bloodshot” eyes. The woman is said to have refused to undergo field sobriety testing.

Donna L. McCain, 65, 59 Mann St., Warwick, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, she is said to have refused a chemical breath test.
