Warwick Center for Arts announces upcoming exhibits, programs

Warwick Center for the Arts recently kicked off its 2019 season with the opening of its Members Show.

Showcasing the artwork of 35 WCFA member artists, the works range from drawing, collage, mixed media, painting and textiles. The exhibit will run through Feb. 21.

In 2019, Warwick Center for the Arts will welcome a diverse range of exhibits, classes, and programs for the community. A complete list of upcoming exhibits and programs – including pricing, dates and full descriptions – can be found at warwickcfa.org.

Highlights in the coming months include:

RISCA Fellowship Exhibit, Feb. 27-March 31:

The RISCA Fellowship Exhibition showcases works by Rhode Island artists who have been recognized by the state for their artistic excellence.

Abstracts Juried Exhibit, April 3-May 16:

The “Abstracts” Spring Juried Exhibit will explore abstract artworks creating in a variety of mediums from artists throughout New England. It will also feature a “Pop up” Exhibit in the lower level classroom featuring artworks created by students in the “Painting Abstracts” Adult Art classes at Warwick Center for the Arts.

Rocky Point: Then & Now Exhibit, May 22-June 27:

This community exhibit will take viewers down memory lane as we commemorate and highlight Warwick’s historical theme park “Rocky Point.” The exhibit will feature art and artifacts from the park as well as photos and artworks inspired by the current community site.

Meditate and Create: Creative Visualization and Meditation Workshop with WCFA Yoga Instructor Joy Adamonis, Feb. 23:

A one-day workshop where participants will be led through a meditation and various yoga poses to help re-center and calm the mind followed by a creative opportunity to create a vision board for 2019.

Vintage Collage Workshop with WCFA member artist Bev Silva, March 9: A one-day workshop where participants will create a vintage collage using old books and vintage papers.

Intro to Drawing with WCFA member artist Karen James, Tuesdays from March 12-April 9:

A fun and relaxed way to learn the basic techniques and skills to start sketching and drawing.

Welcome to Color with WCFA member artist Karen James, Wednesdays from March 13-April 10:

A five-week course learning how to use colored pencils for something other than adult coloring books.

Digital Painting with Procreate on iPad with WCFA member artist Cynthia DiDonato, March 16 and March 23:

Learn to paint on an iPad with this professional app.

Watercolor Painting with WCFA member artist Aileen Quinn, April 13-May 11:

A five-week course will introduce students to basic watercolor techniques, creating unique compositions and discovering creative expression with paint.

“We are excited for our 2019 season and everything we have to offer the community,” said Taylor Terreri, director at Warwick Center for the Arts. “We’ve seen a tremendous amount of growth in the past year; we’ve been engaging new members, new community groups, and new students in our exhibits and programs. We value our role in bringing the arts and cultural events to the residents of Rhode Island, and providing opportunities for the community to discover or expand their creativity and artistic expression.”

As Warwick's oldest non-profit arts organization and the area's cultural center since 1976, the Warwick Center for the Arts provides a performance and exhibition space for the most talented artists, writers and performers in Rhode Island and is host of a wide array of cultural and artistic activities including comedy, theater, music, poetry and literature as well as monthly visual arts exhibitions.
