Once again the strength of Warwick’s community was on full display this past weekend. So many exciting events and celebrations took place across the city. These events were successful because of all the volunteers who gave up their time for our community. 

Across the City, youth baseball leagues fought off the rain and had opening day ceremonies. At Apponaug Babe Ruth League, volunteers were out at 6am working to get the fields dry and ready for baseball. A local landscaping company donated their time to work on the field. Although the Apponaug Girls Fastpitch league was forced to cancel their opening ceremony, volunteers were on the field at 6:30 a.m. working hard to get the field ready after all the rain from the night before.

The community also got together for environmental cleanups this weekend. Groups across the city collected trash and raked leaves along our coastline and historic cemeteries. The Pawtuxet Village Association reported on Facebook their clean up at Pawtuxet Park resulted in 50 full bags, weighing about 500 pounds, all collected along the waterline. It is outstanding that so many people got up on a chilly, wet Saturday morning to clean up our environment.

Warwick residents hosted several other community events this weekend. Hundreds of people came out to honor Father Ricard of Saint Gregory the Great Church for his service to the community on the 50-year anniversary of his ordination. The Crowne Plaza hosted the state convention for the Disabled American Veterans in honor of local residents who sacrificed greatly for our country. The Boys and Girls Club, the Gianna Cirella Memorial Fund, and the Warwick Lions Club also hosted events to raise money for worthy causes.

The above list is not exhaustive. Many more events took place where people volunteered their time for the betterment of our community. We should all take great pride in how Warwick residents come together. A community makes a city, and the people of Warwick have made this city a great place to live.
