After playing together at Pilgrim, Jordan Petrucci and Alexis Vieira are continuing their soccer careers alongside each other, this time teaming up at Johnson & Wales. Both former Patriots have logged significant minutes in the early going of the 2019 campaign, with each managing to have a taste of what life is like in the starting lineup for the Wildcats. Despite dropping their first five contests, the Wildcats have caught fire recently and have strung together a five-game winning streak to push their way back to .500.Petrucci started the first three contests of the season for JWU, taking five shots across those games, with a season-high of three on her debut against Clarkson on August 30. It took her just 12 minutes and 20 seconds to open her account at the collegiate level, beating Golden Knight goalkeeper Elyse Green to put the Wildcats 1-0 ahead. However, Petrucci’s marker could not prevent the JWU eleven from eventually falling to a pair of second-half goals from Danielle Martin, which helped Clarkson to emerge with a 3-2 triumph. Meanwhile, Vieira also made her bow against the Golden Knights, coming off the bench in the 27th minute to play the remainder of the first half, before returning to the fray in the 65th for the balance of the game. She made her first start for the Wildcats against Brandeis, taking four of the team’s 12 shots on the afternoon from her midfield perch. Vieira has recorded one goal and four assists on the season.

After a freshman campaign in which he saw limited reps, Pilgrim graduate Simon Davis Jr. hit the ground running as a sophomore in the Castleton football team’s backfield. The Spartans opened the 2019 campaign with a 23-17 setback to Plymouth State, but one of the bright spots in the defeat was the play of the ex-Patriot as the team’s featured back. Davis got the call again and again, carrying the ball 23 times for 90 yards, gaining 56 more yards than his total for the entirety of last season, in which he played in six of Castleton’s 10 contests. He also found time to score his first touchdown at the collegiate level, reaching the end zone with 6:16 remaining in the opening quarter to cap off an 11-play, 90-yard drive. In addition to his exploits on the ground, Davis was also incorporated into the Spartan passing game, picking up his first two receptions as a Castleton player for a total of 18 yards. Davis Jr. is now up to 307 rushing yards and three scores on the season, and will take on Gallaudet as Castleton aims to secure its first win of the season.
