Warwick Pal Junior Peewees win first two
It is football season and the Warwick Pal Junior Peewee Patriots are back. They have played two games so far, with impressive victories in both. They opened the season against Pawtucket's Oakwood Raiders with a 33-6 victory, then followed that up with a 27-6 win over the North Kingstown Jaguars this past Sunday. Zack Fraser – one of the team captains – had a dominant performance against the Jaguars, throwing a 60-yard touchdown to Josh Reid, completing long passes to A.J. Ucci and scrambling for another 30-yard score. Defensively Andrew Soares led the team with six tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Coming up big on defense was Greg Fontaine with 3.5 tackles and Anthony Taber with a sack, headlining a complete interior defensive line team effort. Linebacker Eric Watts took on big blocks while Dominic Martin and Mike Borges assisted to bring down the competition.
In two games the Patriots have had eight different players find the end zone for touchdowns or two-point conversions – Reid, Brett Babcock, Watts, Fraser, Ucci, Seeley Thao, Ethan Laramee and Shawn Holland.
Next up for the Patriots is their first home game of the season against New Fairfield Conn., one of two interleague opponents the Patriots will play this season. That game is scheduled for this Sunday. Instead of bye weeks, head coach Jesse Babcock has the team looking forward to the crossover opponent and looks forward to the competition.
