Warwick School Committee presents.

To the Editor:

There were not many in attendance (about 25) on Wednesday, Nov. 29 when the Warwick School Committee presented their $85,000,000 bond request to the City Council. It was impressive. I watched them cart in eight bankers boxes filled with impressive three-ring binders and that was impressive. They had almost enough to give a whole box-o-binders to each City Council person. Wow!

Then, the School Committee Executive Director of Finance & Operations, Anthony Ferrucci, gave a very impressive presentation. He used phrases like “constructional capacity,” “adopted capital projects plan,” and my favorite – “aspirational capacity initiative.” He kept the audience spellbound and, when it was all over, everyone had to believe his presentation was very, very, impressive. Not sincere, not honest, not in the taxpayers best interest, not in the students’ best interests…but really, very impressive.

However when it was all over, when all the smoke cleared, I had to reflect back to his opening remarks when he said, “These improvement needs go back to Nov 1, 2011.” I then did some quick math and determined that the taxpayers of Warwick have given the Warwick School Committee almost one billion dollars since “Nov 1, 2011.” The School Committee is required to maintain our schools with part of that money. They are not asking for $85,000,000. They’re asking for $85,000,000 more! Why? Why didn’t they fund those “aspirational capacity initiatives” with the billion dollars that taxpayers already gave them?

In a recent interview, Warwick Council Finance Chairman, Ed Ladouceur was quoted as saying that these “aspirational goals are a total waste of taxpayers’ money. No wonder people are mad.”

I’ll go one step further. The Warwick School Committee has mismanaged hundreds of millions of taxpayers’ dollars. I say, “Let’s not let them do it with one more dollar of taxpayers’ money.”

Merry Christmas everyone.

For more comedy relief watch as the Mayor Dumbness gets yelled at by the council president for randomly walking into the roped off council area during hearings. What a dope.

    Guilty.

I thought the Council was at a break as they usually are between the Finance Committee and the regular City Council meeting. I thought it was allowable to speak to a City Council person at that time.

    I was wrong.

The president of the Council immediately stopped me and I immediately apologized for my error.

    Merry Christmas everyone.
