What’s on stage for theater goers this season


It’s fall, and for theater fanatics, that means just one thing: the 2012-2013 theatrical season is finally underway.

The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre in Pawtucket will close their first show, Amy Herzog’s “After the Revolution” on Oct. 14. The drama, about a leftist family whose world is shaken up when a secret is revealed, has been enjoying the acclaim of local reviewers.
Next up, they have “Red,” which runs Nov. 8 to Dec. 16.
The U.S. premiere of “Anne Boleyn,” from Jan. 7 to Feb. 17. The late winter brings “The Real Thing” from March 14 to April 14, and the season closes with “The Beauty Queen of Leenane,” which runs from May 2 to June 2.

Trinity Rep’s production of Shakespeare’s tragic “King Lear” will play in full force until Oct. 21.
“The How and the Why” will follow, opening on Nov. 29 and running through Dec. 30.
Of course, their annual production of “A Christmas Carol” will play through the holiday season.
“Crime and Punishment” will start the year, playing from Jan. 17 to Feb. 24.
“Social Creatures” plays from March 14 to April 21.
Trinity promises “the theatrical event of the season” as they stage a pair of interlocking plays, “House” and “Garden.” It’s two plays performed simultaneously by the same cast in the upstairs and downstairs theaters from May 16 to June 30.

Warren’s 2nd Story Theatre’s production of “The Goat or Who is Sylvia?” will run until Oct. 21.
Next, they’ll stage “An Inspector Calls” from Nov. 11 to Dec. 2., followed by “Lost in Yonkers” from Nov. 16 to Dec. 16. The new year brings “Amadeus” from Jan. 18 to Feb. 17, followed by “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” from March 8 to April 7. 2nd Story closes out their season with “The Rose Tattoo” from April 26 to May 26.

Warwick’s own brand new Ocean State Theatre will inaugurate their first season with “The Winter Wonderettes,” playing Dec. 5 through 30.
“The Santaland Diaries” play from Dec. 12 to 30.
Neil Simon’s “Fools” will be staged from Jan. 23 through Feb. 10.
The award-winning musical “Rent” from Feb. 22 to March 17.
“Race” will open on March 27 and run until April 14.
The season closes with “The King and I” from April 24 to May 19.

The Providence Performing Arts Center’s Broadway Series includes “Catch Me If You Can,” which opens this month, “Elf,” “Memphis,” “Jekyll and Hyde,” “Million Dollar Quartet,” “Sister Act,” and “War Horse.”
Their Contemporary Classics season includes “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Peter Pan,” and “American Idiot” will play at PPAC as well.
