Farmers markets throughout Rhode Island are coming together to host their first ever statewide event and vote on Rhode Island's favorite vegetable.
The Rhode Island Farmers Market Collaborative (RIFMC) announced that they are "digging" into the summer market season with The Great Rhode Island Veggie Vote!, a week-long celebration where devoted farmers market lovers can cast a ballot to elect their favorite summer vegetable. Veggie-themed events will take place at participating farmers markets across the state from July 10 through 16.
Veggie vote participants will elect one of this year's five candidates: Summer Squash, Kale, Beets, Snap Peas, or Turnips. The Veggie Vote polls will also be open on the RIFMC Facebook page throughout the month of July, and the group will announce Rhode Island's favorite vegetable during National Farmers Market Week, August 6-12.
