WHMS music programs wrap the year in style

Big audience for a big performance: The various music programs at Western Hills combined forces to perform the “National Anthem” together, as a group of several hundred students for the crowd at the June 20 Pawtucket Red Sox game. The event serves as a fundraiser for the music program, with a portion of the price of each ticket purchased through the school going back to the school music program.

Final choral performance: The eighth-grade chorus had their final middle school performance on May 30, performing a variety of pieces, including a medley from Glee, which included nearly a dozen different songs. This year, each grade level, six through eight, hosted their own performance night in the school auditorium, spotlighting their work from the school year.

On the big screen: The scoreboard screen at the Pawtucket Red Sox game on June 20 announced the arrival of the Western Hills music programs for a combined performance of the “National Anthem.”

Attack of the Slide Trombones: The sixth-grade band was accompanied on stage by faculty members John Worthington, John Esposito, John Zolli, and Carl Gamba, each of whom volunteered to play the slide trombone for a special performance of “Attack of the Slide Trombone,” accompanying the band.

The band, chorus and orchestra programs at Western Hills Middle School celebrated a school year of growth and progress by hosting a series of separate performances at the end of the school year for family and friends as well as combining as a group of nearly 300 students to take part in a fundraiser performance at a Pawtucket Red Sox game on June 20. The students sang and performed the “National Anthem” for that event. The music programs are facilitated by Mitchell Fortier, Lisa Tomassi and Nancy Richardson.
