William E. Underwood

William E. Underwood, 91, of Warwick, passed away at Avalon Nursing Home on October 31, 2017 after a brief illness.

Born in Providence Rhode Island, he was the son of William and Mabel (Kingston) Underwood. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He worked for the United States Postal Service until his retirement 28 years ago. He was an avid traveler, and enjoyed every one of the 43 cruises he had been on. He also enjoyed the occasional cigar and glass of wine while entertaining family and friends with stories of his Navy days and many trips. He also donated blood on a regular basis for years and volunteered for several medical research trials to hopefully benefit future generations. He will be missed by all of who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Jean Ann, son William Underwood, daughter Deborah Vano and son-in-law Bill Clark. He also leaves three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Robert "Ladd" Underwood, brother Robert Underwood, and daughter-in-law Cindy Underwood. He also leaves many friends, especially Lora and John Glascom.

At William's request he will be cremated, services and visitation are respectfully omitted.

Donations to the Rhode Island SPCA in his name would be appreciated. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.THEBUTTERFIELDHOME.com
