William H. McDevitt

William H. McDevitt, 89, died Saturday, June 24, at home. He was the beloved husband of Huberta R. (Maher) McDevitt. They were married for 62 years.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late William H. and Eva A. (Galligan) McDevitt. William was a 1945 graduate of La Salle Academy, a 1950 graduate of Providence College, and received his Masters Degree from URI. Bill was a teacher for over 30 years, working in Providence at La Salle Academy and in the Warwick School Department where he taught at all 3 high schools in Warwick. He was a faithful volunteer and a daily communicant of Saint Gregory the Great Church.

In addition to his wife, he leaves three sons, William H. McDevitt and his wife Patricia, Kevin L. McDevitt and his wife Nancy, and John J. McDevitt and his wife Patricia; two daughters, Mary S. Afflerback and her husband Gerald, and Kathleen M. Carr and her husband Stephen. He was known as “Da” to his grandchildren: Elizabeth, Maureen, Erin, Amy, Michael, Kerry, Brendan, Brian, Jerome, Reilly, Will, James and his many great-grandchildren.

The McDevitt family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Brentwood Nursing Home for the exceptional care shown to Mr. McDevitt.

The funeral was held on Tuesday, June 27 from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Rt.117) Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in Saint Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Road, Warwick. Burial in Saint Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
