Vets wins pair of games against Winman

Warwick Vets and Winman Middle Schools played their first ever softball game against each other on Thursday afternoon since the creation of Vets Middle School this year.

The two teams then played again on Friday due to several rainouts this spring, and Vets emerged victorious in both games, 6-0, and 13-9.

Vets coach Rich Hough said that Thursday’s game was the best the girls played so far this season.

There were two excellent plays at home plate. Winman catcher Jasmyn Lee did her best to tag Vets’ Destinee Santiago the first time, and again with Vets’ Madison D’Amato in a later inning.

Winman’s coach Bob Chevian said the bats were not “hot” and that defensively Warwick Vets played a better game. He is hoping that the bats heat up again during the playoffs.

Both Vets pitcher Kelsey Burr and Winman’s Emily Tow tossed excellent games in the circle.

Warwick Vets ended the season at 10-2 in second place and Winman is third at 8-4, while Western Hills Middle School is on top. The schedule for the playoffs will be announced on Friday, May 26.
