Workshop in Warwick focuses on epilepsy


The Matty Fund’s Epilepsy Resource Center is sponsoring a workshop for parents and caregivers of children and young adults who are interested in learning more about alternative treatments for epilepsy and seizure disorders.

There will be a number of guest speakers educating on alternative treatment options for controlling seizures. Nutritionist Jessica Mulligan, MS, RD, LDN will discuss different diet therapies, including the Ketogenic and modified Keto options. A panel of parents who have seen positive results in their children with use of these diets will share their stories, answer questions, offer tips and share recipes. Chiropractic Neurologist Dr. John T. Sotis will discuss Hemispheric Integration and how brain-based therapy is helping kids with ADHD, autism spectrum and other neurobehavioral disorders such as epilepsy. Neurologist Dr. Maria Younes will present on the Vagus Nerve Stimulator (VNS) option, and Pediatric Epileptologist Dr. John Gaitanis will present on diagnosing epilepsy in children and discuss surgical options currently available.

The workshop will be held on Saturday, March 2 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, located at 801 Greenwich Ave. in Warwick. Refreshments will be provided.
