Youth Theatre offers school vacation camps


Rhode Island Youth Theatre (RIYT) is offering two programs for young performers during April school vacation week, April 16-20.

RIYT is looking for actors, ages 11 to 14, to perform in their Young PlayRIYTs Festival. Participants will perform scenes from “Sherwood Forest,” a new play written by Young PlayRIYT Mitchell Cardone.

Students will have the opportunity to work with professional theater and dance educators. Rehearsals are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 16-20, at the imPossible Dream, 575 Centerville Road, Warwick. There will be one performance on Friday, April 10 at 7 p.m. Registration fee is $200, with scholarships available.

RIYT is also offering a program for teen singers ages 13 to 18 called the RIYT Show Chorus. Rehearsals are April vacation week, April 16-20, from noon to 3 p.m. daily at the imPossible Dream.

This teen chorus will perform a half hour cabaret of Broadway show tunes three times: Friday, April 20 at 7 p.m. at the imPossible Dream; Saturday, April 21 at 10 a.m. at the Assisted Living Facility for Alzheimer's clients at Briar Cliffe Gardens in Johnston; and Saturday, April 21 at 3 p.m. at the Seasons in East Greenwich.

Registration fee is $75 with scholarships available.
