Ys offer free showers, battery charging for those affected by hurricane

Several YMCAs in the area, including Kent County YMCA, are offering free showers and battery charging to community members affected by the floods and power outages caused by Hurricane Sandy.

“The Y has always served as a community resource in times of need,” said Jim Berson, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Providence. “We’re fortunate that most of our branches are able to reopen after the storm and we want to extend our support to the community at large.”

Services began Wednesday morning at the following branches: Cranston YMCA, 1225 Park Ave, Cranston, 943-0444; East Side/Mt. Hope YMCA, 438 Hope Street, Providence, 521-0155; Kent County YMCA, 900 Centerville Rd, Warwick, 828-0130; Smithfield YMCA, 15 Deerfield Rd, Greenville, 949-2480; and West Bay Family YMCA, 7540 Post Road, North Kingstown, 295-6501.

A photo ID and signed waiver are required.
