Robert A. McGovern

Robert A. McGovern, 77, of Louisiana Avenue, Warwick, died peacefully at home February 1, 2010. He was the loving husband of Eleanor C. (Votta) McGovern for 51 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Arthur J. McGovern and Florence (Allen) McGovern. Mr. McGovern was a civil service employee at Davisville Seabee Base until his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish of Warwick. Besides his wife he leaves four children, Robert A. McGovern Jr. of Charlestown, Karen A. McGovern of Chevy Chase, Md., Terrie A. Gibbons of Warwick and John A. McGovern of Cranston; and a sister, Judith L. Burgess of Maynard, Mass. He was the loving grandfather of seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. His funeral will be held Feb. 5 at 7:45 a.m. from Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Ave., Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 597 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick. Interment will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Feb. 4 from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 would be appreciated.
