A poor substitute for sound economic policy

To the Editor:

Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis must love Democrat legislators like Rhode Island’s Sen. Melissa Murray and Rep. Karen Alzate.

DeSantis knows that the stupid tax policy proposed by Murray and Alzate will drive even more affluent Rhode Islanders to seek greener tax pastures in Florida (“Why raising taxes on the wealthiest 1% is a long term investment in Rhode Island,” May 26). That’s great for the Sunshine State’s economy, but the Ocean State loses out with each change in residency.

Soak the rich/punish the successful based taxation is a poor substitute for sound economic policy. Murray and Alzate ought to know that, but obviously don’t. As legislators with the power to tax and destroy, their ignorance of economics and human nature doesn’t bode well for the future of Rhode Island.
