To the Editor,
On the ballot this year, Rhode Island voters will be presented with a question on whether to approve or oppose a so-called ‘Green’ Bond.
At a first glance, it looks like a good thing. A bond to help the environment. However, in ac- tuality, the opposite is true.
In this fake green bond, $5 million of taxpayer dollars would go to logging and likely clearcutting of our state-owned forests under the mis- leading name of “forest and habitat restoration.” This would allow the timber industry to be paid by the state government to log our natural state forests and then profit from selling the publictimber.
This destructive logging would destroy forests and natural habitats, kill native species, create a fire hazard, lead to the spread of inva- sive species, and contribute to Climate Change from the carbon released when the trees are logged.
Please oppose Question 4 this November to Save Rhode Island’s Forests.
