Angel Lobaton, 80, of Warwick, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Xalapa, Vera Cruz, Mexico, he was the son of the late Luis and Lucrecia (Hernandez Carmona) Lobaton.

Angel was the beloved husband of Janet C. (Carp) Lobaton, whom he met at the University of the Americas in Cholula, Mexico. Shortly after marrying, they opened a restaurant together in Puebla, Mexico and in 1973 moved to Warwick, Rhode Island where they raised their three children. Angel became a naturalized citizen of the United States shortly thereafter and brought many of his talents with him. He went on to work as a baker for a variety of businesses, including Gregg’s Restaurants and St. Joseph’s Hospital. He retired from Our Lady of Fatima Hospital.

In addition to his work and the care of his family, Angel was one of the original softball coaches for the Apponaug Girls Softball League, serving as a coach for thirteen years. Some of his greatest pleasures were baking, traveling, gardening, and walking outdoors through various trails with his wife Janet.

He was deeply loved by his family and friends. He was not only an Angel by name, but also by personality with his big infectious smile and big heart.

In addition to his wife Janet, he is survived by his beloved children, Jose Antonio Lobaton (Beth) of North Kingstown, Margarita Lobaton-Strzepka (Matthew) of Westwood, MA, and Cristina Jones (Jimmy) of Suwanee, GA, and his grandchildren, Jack Strzepka, Brooke Strzepka, Henry Lobaton, and Samuel Lobaton. He was predeceased by his sisters, Teresa, Maria, and Carlotta.

His Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021 in the Historic Chapel at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd, Providence. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to the Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Ave, Warwick.
