Remember the good old days, when Happy Hour meant stopping by a bar after work for half-price drinks and a bowl of peanuts?
Well, Happy Hour in Rhode Island is no more, as state officials saw a way to cut down on alcoholism and drunk driving.
IGGY’S Boardwalk and several other establishments have come up with a great replacement,
Appy (for Appetizers) Hour has now become a popular alternative for drawing people to the restaurant earlier for some half-price appetizers and the bargain Buck-a-Shuck.
Appy Hour at Warwick’s Iggy’s Boardwalk has become our place for an evening meal.
At a dollar a little Neck or Oyster, you can enjoy a couple dozen fresh shellfish for $24 and make a meal out of them.
A complimentary small loaf of warm bread and some oil and vinegar adds to the enjoyment.
Every Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. shellfish lovers get their fill of the shellfish in addition to ½ off appetizers and small portions of Clam Zuppa or Mussel Giovanni for $10 each.
Last week I ordered the Fried Calamari which arrived piping hot and included hot red peppers and a cup of warm tomato sauce on the side.
The medium size rings were tender and tasty.
Other 12-off appetizers included stuffies, six clam cakes, seasoned fries, potato skins, onion rings, flat bread, truffle fries, and fried mozzarella. Appy hour is for dine-in only, with no take-out or to-go boxes.
