The Warwick Beacon’s Athlete of the Week is Toll Gate track thrower Vanessa Jones. Jones has had a historic junior season for the Titans and took first place at last weekend’s Rhode Island Interscholastic League Indoor State Championships in the weight throw, recording a personal and school best toss of 59 feet. Jones had plenty of momentum heading into the state meet, winning the Class A title a few weeks back with a throw of 57 feet. She is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the weight throw and is setting her sights on another championship in the upcoming outdoor season. Jones also competes in shot put for the Titans.
