(The Ultimate Marvel Movie)

The parking lots were overflowing at Warwick Mall last Thursday night as Avengers fans flocked to sold-out preview showings of the much-anticipated final chapter of the Avengers' saga.

Checking the showings online, we were overwhelmed with the number of screens showing the movie, beginning at 9:15 a.m., with the last showing at 10:45 p.m. With people arriving a half hour before the three-hour and one-minute movie, sitting through the endless commercials and previews and lasting through the credits, it made for a four-hour visit for most. And the popcorn business did very well, indeed.

If you are an Avengers fan, and there are thousands of you in Rhode Island, you know that our heroes left us hanging in outer space and down on the farm with the evil Thanos (Josh Brolin) having caused the disappearance of half of the world's population and mass destruction of our planet.

The first segment of the long movie shows us where are superheroes have ended up and how they are all brought together to find those mysterious six stones, making up for their failures at the end of the 2018 Avengers: Infinity War, bringing back their loved ones and destroying Thanos.

Captain America (Chris Evans) takes charge as Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) develops his theory of time travel to allow the superheroes to "turn back time.” The special effects and background music add to the mood of this overwhelming, spectacular movie, but it is the portrayal of the characters, who have grown (some quite physically) over the past five years.

The movie has many funny lines, although a few are lost due to some mumbling. If you are not a devoted fan, or even if you are, you will be lost at times, as the plot gets a bit confusing. Wait until you see what has happened to the Hulk. And when Thor first appears on-screen, you can't help but laugh out loud.

The producers have kept the plot and characters under wraps, allowing for some big surprises, so we don't want to give anything away, except to tell you that, like all Marvel movies, it comes down to the big, long battle. And when that finally ends, we get a peak at what happens to our heroes, including one big shocker.

As the credits roll, listing the thousands of people involved in the film and the many famous actors who had small roles, less than half of the audience hung back, waiting for that customary teaser at the very end. Save yourself some time. Nothing happens. Endgame is the end. I think.

Rated PG-13, with some profanity and violence.

While there is no traditional "teaser" after the credits, there is an Easter Egg for fans to speculate about.
