Barbara L. Bremner (Downey)

Barbara L. Bremner (Downey), age 103, of Warwick, RI, passed away in her home on November 2, 2021, in the presence of her son Alexander and daughter Patricia. Born in Springfield, MA on June 12, 1918, the daughter of Howard James Downey and Edith Maybell (Whiting) Downey, she lived in Warwick since 1954. Mrs. Bremner was employed for many years at the former Reliable Telephone Answering Service in Warwick.  Earlier in her life, she was an operator with New England Telephone & Telegraph Co. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, William C. Bremner; her sisters, Elizabeth “Bette” LaHotan and Margaret “Peggy” Heenan, and brother James Downey. Barbara loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She was also an avid reader often reading 2 or 3 books weekly.  She loved Christmas and spent months shopping for the perfect holiday gifts!  She loved buying antiques, attending auctions and refinishing furniture which she continued to do well into her eighties. She is survived by her son, Alex; daughter Patricia Neri and husband Michael; seven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren, and many loved nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her dearest friend, Mary Manchester. The family would like to thank Dr. Rebecca Brown and Dr. Rita Faherty for their loving and wonderful care extended to Barbara for many years. Her funeral and burial were private.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
