Meals on Wheels in need of volunteers

Meals on Wheels of RI is in immediate need of volunteers for its Home-Delivered Meal Program in Warwick. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The program helps homebound seniors remain healthy, safe, and happy at home. Gaspee Seniors meet again

The Gaspee Seniors will begin its 2021-2022 year with the first meeting to play bingo on Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. at the Pilgrim Senior Center. New members are always welcome, stop in to see what the Gaspee Seniors are all about.

Warwick Public Library book groups

On Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 9 a.m., the Warwick Public Library Tuesday Morning Book Group will meet to discuss 1984 by George Orwell. The group will meet in the large meeting room. To participate, email maryannqn@gmail.com.

On Thursday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m., the WPL History Book Group will meet to discuss God, War, and Providence: the Epic Struggle of Roger Williams and the Narragansett Indians Against the Puritans of New England by James A. Outdoor movie night at Winslow Field

To celebrate the renovations of three fields at Winslow Park, the Apponaug Girls Fastpitch softball team is hosting an outdoor showing of The Sandlot on Friday, Sept. 10. Snack Shack opens at 5:30 serving popcorn, chicken fingers, burgers, hot dogs, and more. Move starts at 7 p.m. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs, and the whole family to enjoy the big screen event!

Rally 4 Recovery Walk

The Anchor Recovery Community Center, along with the Kent County Prevention Coalition, will be hosting the 1st annual Rally 4 Recovery Walk at Warwick City Park on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. Celebrate the joy of being in recovery from alcohol and other substances with a fun walk for all ages. The event will also include guest speakers, free refreshments, and community resources. Leashed pets are welcome.

Annual Dahlia Show

The RI Dahlia Society will have their Annual Dahlia Show at the Cold Spring Community Center at 36 Beach St., North Kingstown, on Sept. 11 from 4 to 7 p.m., and Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a large variety of Dahlias on display, along with special arrangements, and vases of dahlias with other flowers for sale. Celebrate Rally Day at Lakewood Baptist Church

Lakewood Baptist Church, located at 355 Atlantic Ave, is hosting a free celebration worship service, with fun for kids of all ages! The event will be held on Sunday, Sept. 12 starting at 10 a.m.

Free petting zoo at Pawtuxet Baptist Church

A Concert of Folk and Gospel

Enjoy a concert by Warwick singer/songwriter Joanne Lurgio on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Warwick Public Library. Hear Joanne and her brother Don play original and traditional folk and gospel tunes, with Joanne on guitar and Don on dobro or fiddle-or maybe both. The event is free and open to all.

Ladies Hi-Low Jack League

AARP field trips

The 210 chapter of AARP is hosting a series of field trips. The first is on Thursday, September 16 to the Newport Playhouse & Cabaret Restaurant for a buffet lunch followed by a performance of Murder at the Howard Johnson’s. The lighthearted and entertaining comedy follows the story of a love triangle that takes place at the Howard Johnson’s Motor Inn. Bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. from the I-95 Park & Ride at Exit 6A, Coventry, and will return around 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $109 per person and payment is due by August 16. From Sunday, November 7 to Tuesday, November 9, AARP is hosting a trip to Atlantic City. On the 7th, attendees will depart at 7:30 a.m. from the I-95 Park & Ride at Exit 6A, Coventry and travel to Atlantic City’s first casino, Resorts. Upon arrival, guests will receive $20 casino slot cash, $50 in food credits, and a casino show. The bus will return to RI around 7:30 p.m. on the 9th. The tour cost is $269 per person for a double room, $259 per person for a triple room, and $369 per person for a single room. Operation Stand Down Weekend

Operation Stand Down Rhode Island (OSDRI) is set to kick off its 30th annual outreach weekend on Sept. 17 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Sept. 18th from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Veterans can access a variety of resources including health, dental, substance abuse care, employment, legal, and housing services. The event will be held at OSDRI’s Veteran Service Center located at 1010 Hartford Ave in Johnston. Lunch will be provided both days, and a dinner will be provided for veterans on the 18th at 6:30 p.m.

Warwick Vets reunion rescheduled

The Warwick Veterans Memorial High School class of 1960 reunion has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 18. The event will be held at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet at 1 Rhodes Place. There will be a social hour from 12 to 1 p.m., and then a luncheon buffet from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $40 per person. For questions, contact Sally (Anderson) Allen at (401) 783-0205.

OBVF Arts & Crafts Fair

The Oakland Beach Volunteer Fireman’s Club is hosting an arts and crafts fair on Sunday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the club, located at 645 Oakland Beach Ave. A variety of local creators and artisans will be selling handmade goods and wares. Rhodes on the Pawtuxet Harvest Festival

On Sunday, Sept. 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 .m., Rhodes on the Pawtuxet will host the 2021 Harvest Festival. The event will feature local artisans and vendors, live music, kids activities, Penny Socials, raffles, concessions and more. Applications for vendors are now open. Vendors will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. All vendor and crafter spaces include an 8’ banquet table, 2 chairs, and a table sign. ESL classes at WPL

The Warwick Public Library and the RI Family Literacy Initiative will be hosting English as a Second Language (ESL) classes starting on September 20. Practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in small groups. On Monday Sept. 20, the Boys and Girls Club of Warwick will host their 43rd annual golf tournament at the Warwick Country Club. The cost for individual players is $250. Corporate sponsor levels range from $150 for a Tee Sign, upwards. Entry fee includes lunch, dinner, snacks, green fees and more. All donations are tax deductible and help BGCW provide safe, fun, life-enhancing programming for area youth. Wine & paint fundraiser

The Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company and Museum is hosting a paint night on Sept. 23 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The event will take place at Greenwood Hall located at 45 Kernick St. It will be a night full of fun, food, and painting all for a good cause. Beginners are welcome, and all painters leave with a finished painting. Supplies and step-by-step instruction included. Tickets are $45 for non-members and $40 for members. Citizenship prep classes at WPL

Prepare for the U.S. Naturalization Interview with Citizen Preparation classes at the Warwick Public Library. Practice citizenship vocabulary, learn the necessary civics content, and work on interview skills using the N-400 application form. Annual Conimicut Village yard sale

The annual Conimicut Village-wide yard sale will take place on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, Sept. 26. There is no cost to participate, just set up at your house and keep the profits! The Conimicut Village Association will publish a map of participating homes and publicize the sale. No More Hunger Community Walk

A walk to call attention to food insecurity and raise funds for local pantries is being planned by a group of area churches: Woodbury Union, Lakewood Baptist, St. Benedict, St. Kevin, and St. Mark’s. Weekly car show at Tri-City Elks Lodge #14

The Tri-City Elks Lodge at 1915 West Shore Road invites you to the weekly car show, held every Thursday at 5:00 p.m. Bring your auto and show it off, or just come and enjoy. Motorcycles are welcome. Music and food will be available, as will the Tiki Bar serving cold beverages. Entrance is free.

We Make RI, an organization that provides free manufacturing training, is hosting a series of job fairs every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at their offices at 200 First Avenue in Cranston. The next job fair will take place today, Sept. 2. We Make RI offers job seekers a chance to meet with employers, get career counseling, resume help, and more. The RI chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness provides free family support groups and educational programs. NAMI Family-to-Family is a free 8-session educational program for families, significant others, and friends of people living with mental illness. It is a designated evidenced-based program.
