Rhodes on the Pawtuxet Harvest Festival

On Sunday, Sept. 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 .m., Rhodes on the Pawtuxet will host the 2021 Harvest Festival. The event will feature local artisans and vendors, live music, kids activities, Penny Socials, raffles, concessions and more. Applications for vendors are now open. Vendors will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. All vendor and crafter spaces include an 8’ banquet table, 2 chairs, and a table sign. Warwick Municipal Retirees meet Sept. 29

Group Flea Market & Bake sale

Lakewood Baptist Church, 255 Atlantic Ave. will hold a group flea market, bake sale and snack bar on Saturday, Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

OBVF Arts & Crafts Fair

The Oakland Beach Volunteer Fireman’s Club is hosting an arts and crafts fair on Sunday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the club, located at 645 Oakland Beach Ave. A variety of local creators and artisans will be selling handmade goods and wares. Cranston Women’s Club holds meet and greet

The General Federation Cranston Women's Club is sponsoring a Meet and Greet on Wednesday, Sept. 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Chelo's Banquet Room, 1275 Reservoir Avenue in Cranston.  Come learn what these club women do for the community.  Appetizers and soft drinks will be served.  Bring a friend.  RSVP Paula Andrews (Club President) at 401-451-5073.

Guys will be Dolls is Sept. 18

The William Shields Jr. Squadron 43 will present “Guys will be Dolls” at the post home, 662 West Shore Rd. Saturday, Sept. 18 in support of the post’s children’s Christmas fund. The event starts at 6 p.m. with pasta, meatballs, salad and Italian bread provided by Rigatoni’s at 6 p.m. to be followed by the show at 7. Tickets are a $20 donation that can be made at the door.

Meet Sara Corbin and ‘Weird Island’

On Monday, Sept. 20, Sara Corbin will share some bizarre tales of Rhode Island history in a virtual program sponsored by the East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society. You’ll learn about Roger Williams and the man-eating tree and the day it rained fish in Olneyville as well as other little known stories about our peculiar state. Sara began a weekly podcast, “Weird Island,” while working from her home in Pawtucket during the pandemic. She is a brand manager for the Transformer toys at Hasbro and an amateur historian/storyteller. She’ll describe why she started this project, how she finds and researches her offbeat stories, and the technological intricacies of making a podcast in her living room. Gaspee Seniors meeting

Gaspee Seniors will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 1:30 p.m. Please note the time change. The meeting will be held at the Pilgrim Senior Center. The program for the day is “Left, Right, Center.” This is a fun, fast moving game. Remember to bring quarters. Three are needed for each game. Refreshments will be served. New members are always welcome. Six new members joined at our last meeting. So happy to welcome you to this group. Be safe!

Orchid Society program

The Ocean State Orchid Society will host a program, “Growing Miniature Orchids in the Home,” on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m. at Rocky Hill Grange, 1340 South County Trail, East Greenwich. Enter through rear of building. Cordelia Head of J&L Orchids will be speaking about household miniature orchid culture. Cordelia’s presentation is great for both the beginner and expert. Orchids will be available for sale at the end of the presentation. COVID protocols to be followed. Please wear masks and practice social distancing. Coffee and water will be provided.

Friends of Warwick Ponds meeting

Optimism Walk set for Sept. 18

The American Parkinson Disease Association’s (APDA) Rhode Island Chapter will host its Optimism Walk on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Goddard State Park in East Greenwich. This annual event is part of a nationwide series of Optimism Walks intended to raise funds and awareness to support for people with Parkinson’s disease, their care partners, and families through research, education, and support services. Participants from all over Rhode Island, and beyond, will come together for the special event.

Registration opens at 9 a.m. and the Optimism Walk begins at 11 a.m. Online registration is strongly encouraged. It is easy to create or join a team, begin fundraising, or make a generous donation.

Water, snacks and sweet treats, surprising gift raffles, and fun activities are planned. For Walk details and online registration, visit www.apdaparkinson.org/RI.

18th Howlween Party

Join us for a wicked good time at our 18th annual Howlween Party on Saturday, Oct. 23, from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, 475 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Tickets cost $20 per person (or zombie!) and include dinner. There will be a cash bar.

Enjoy dancing with music provided by a DJ, raffles and costume contest prizes. Costumes are optional, but definitely lots more fun.

This is an adults-only event, and no pets are permitted on the premises. There is an ATM on premises.

Friends of Animal Shelter pet walk, blessing is October 2

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will host its 14th Annual Pet Walk with Blessing of the Animals and Costume Contest on Saturday October 2 at the beach in Warwick City Park, Asylum Avenue, Warwick from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the homeless cats and dogs waiting for adoption at the Warwick Animal Shelter. 

A $15 donation for each animal includes an individual blessing by Deacon John Baker of Saints Rose and Clements Parish and a colorful pet bandana. Enjoy a scenic 2.75-mile walk around Warwick City Park with your dog. A shorter walk is also available. All restrained animals are welcome for a blessing, but only dogs are allowed on the walk.

Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. and the Dog Walk starts at 11:30 a.m. Individual blessings will continue to be performed until 12 p.m. by Deacon Baker.

Meals on Wheels in need of volunteers

Meals on Wheels of RI is in immediate need of volunteers for its Home-Delivered Meal Program in Warwick. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The program helps homebound seniors remain healthy, safe, and happy at home. AARP field trips

The 210 chapter of AARP is hosting a series of field trips. The first is on Thursday, September 16 to the Newport Playhouse & Cabaret Restaurant for a buffet lunch followed by a performance of Murder at the Howard Johnson’s. The lighthearted and entertaining comedy follows the story of a love triangle that takes place at the Howard Johnson’s Motor Inn. Bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. from the I-95 Park & Ride at Exit 6A, Coventry, and will return around 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $109 per person and payment is due by August 16. From Sunday, November 7 to Tuesday, November 9, AARP is hosting a trip to Atlantic City. On the 7th, attendees will depart at 7:30 a.m. from the I-95 Park & Ride at Exit 6A, Coventry and travel to Atlantic City’s first casino, Resorts. Upon arrival, guests will receive $20 casino slot cash, $50 in food credits, and a casino show. The bus will return to RI around 7:30 p.m. on the 9th. The tour cost is $269 per person for a double room, $259 per person for a triple room, and $369 per person for a single room. Operation Stand Down Weekend

Operation Stand Down Rhode Island (OSDRI) is set to kick off its 30th annual outreach weekend on Sept. 17 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Sept. 18th from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Veterans can access a variety of resources including health, dental, substance abuse care, employment, legal, and housing services. The event will be held at OSDRI’s Veteran Service Center located at 1010 Hartford Ave in Johnston. Lunch will be provided both days, and a dinner will be provided for veterans on the 18th at 6:30 p.m.

Warwick Vets reunion rescheduled

The Warwick Veterans Memorial High School class of 1960 reunion has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 18. The event will be held at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet at 1 Rhodes Place. There will be a social hour from 12 to 1 p.m., and then a luncheon buffet from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $40 per person. For questions, contact Sally (Anderson) Allen at (401) 783-0205.

ESL classes at WPL

The Warwick Public Library and the RI Family Literacy Initiative will be hosting English as a Second Language (ESL) classes starting on September 20. Practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in small groups. On Monday Sept. 20, the Boys and Girls Club of Warwick will host their 43rd annual golf tournament at the Warwick Country Club. The cost for individual players is $250. Corporate sponsor levels range from $150 for a Tee Sign, upwards. Entry fee includes lunch, dinner, snacks, green fees and more. All donations are tax deductible and help BGCW provide safe, fun, life-enhancing programming for area youth. Wine & paint fundraiser

The Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company and Museum is hosting a paint night on Sept. 23 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The event will take place at Greenwood Hall located at 45 Kernick St. It will be a night full of fun, food, and painting all for a good cause. Beginners are welcome, and all painters leave with a finished painting. Supplies and step-by-step instruction included. Tickets are $45 for non-members and $40 for members. Citizenship prep classes at WPL

Prepare for the U.S. Naturalization Interview with Citizen Preparation classes at the Warwick Public Library. Practice citizenship vocabulary, learn the necessary civics content, and work on interview skills using the N-400 application form. Annual Conimicut Village yard sale

The annual Conimicut Village-wide yard sale will take place on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, Sept. 26. There is no cost to participate, just set up at your house and keep the profits! The Conimicut Village Association will publish a map of participating homes and publicize the sale. No More Hunger Community Walk

A walk to call attention to food insecurity and raise funds for local pantries is being planned by a group of area churches: Woodbury Union, Lakewood Baptist, St. Benedict, St. Kevin, and St. Mark’s. The RI chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness provides free family support groups and educational programs. NAMI Family-to-Family is a free 8-session educational program for families, significant others, and friends of people living with mental illness. It is a designated evidenced-based program.
