After a strong showing in the recent class championships, Cranston runners were back in action last weekend at Ponaganset as they ran in the RIIL State Championships.
The Bishop Hendricken Hawks took first place as a team while Cumberland won on the girls side. Pilgrim’s Keaney Bayha captured first place overall on the girls side, becoming the first ever Warwick public school student to win an individual title. As expected, Marshall Vernon took first place overall for La Salle Academy on the boys side.
Cranston East’s Cohen Brinker led the city’s boys by taking home 34th overall, followed by West’s Matt Petit in 53rd. West’s Aidan Gosselin finished 63rd, while East’s Nathaniel Brennick placed 87th. Teammate Levi Soch finished 90th overall. The Bolts finished 16th as a team.
Lilliana Prendergast followed up a strong outing at the class championships by finishing 22nd overall which was the highest for a Cranston runner. Teammate Kristen Fountaine finished close behind at 27th. East’s Jessica Chin led the way for the Bolts by taking home 37th overall.
