Carl W. Bishop Sr, age 90, of Warwick, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Greenwich Farms at Warwick. He was the devoted husband of the late Kristina L. “Tina” (Roun) Bishop.
A life-long resident of Warwick, he was the son of the late Walter M. and Margaret (Christmann) Bishop. He was a 1952 graduate of Bryant College, and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Carl was an active life-long member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Warwick, serving as chairperson of numerous committees. An avid birder, he identified almost one thousand North American birds, and his love of baseball led to being a long-time devoted Little League and Babe Ruth coach. Carl was an avid gardener, which earned him the nick name of “The Flakey Farmer”. He was also a poet, and he loved writing personalized poems to his wife, daughters and granddaughters every Valentine’s Day.
Mr. Bishop, a certified public accountant, was employed as a financial executive at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence for over 30 years, retiring as the Vice President for Finance in 1989.
He is survived by two sons, Carl W. Bishop, Jr. (wife Barbara) of Warwick, and Eric P. Bishop (wife Annalisa) of Wellesley, MA; a daughter, Lynne R. Ferreira (husband Steve, deceased) of St. Augustine, Florida; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Karen L. George (husband Rob, deceased), and the brother of the late Rose Bomba.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday, September 18th, at 3 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, Ann Mary Brown Drive, Warwick. It is suggested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, or the RI Audubon Society.
