We love tacos!
Who doesn’t?
We love that you never have to drive very far from your house to find a good taco place.
In Edgewood, we can walk to one.
A new “Taqueria” recently opened at 890 Allens Ave. in Providence, the commuter route off Route 95 for Edgewood, Pawtuxet, Governor Francis and parts south and east to Warwick.
The tiny spot, located near a Hookah bar and a Dunkin’, has been brightly adorned with Mexican art and can’t be missed.
I stopped on my way home from Downcity and was amazed at the large menu for such a small place. There is seating for a dozen or more, but take-out seems to be the most popular.
The menu features a number of plant-based and vegan meals, sandwiches and drinks, along with the usual chicken, shrimp and birria (shredded, slow-cooked meat).
The popular taco is #3.99. Burritos are $12.95. Chimichangas are $13.95\9. They are all stuffed with the usual ingredients and accompanying sauces.
I ordered the best shrimp Fajita Quesadilla, an item that is listed on a separate “specials” menu along with many other innovative dishes that sell for $12-$13. It was the best I have ever tasted, filled with tiny shrimp, beans, lettuce, cheese and accompanied by sour cream and a tangy green sauce. I’ll be back for more.
Casa Azul is open daily except Sunday. Call 414-7799 to order ahead.
