The CCRI Knights baseball team have been ranked No. 9 in the nation for NJCAA DIII by The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NJCAA Baseball Coaches Association in their 2020 Pre-season Division Three Poll.
The Knights garnered such recognition after a solid showing in last season’s NJCAA DIII College World Series. The Knights finished the 2019 season with a 27-12 overall record while going 15-1 in Region XXI play.
CCRI came up against the Suffolk County Community College Sharks in the District F Championship. The Knights took game one 9-3 and game two 7-1 to sweep the Sharks and book their place in the NJCAA DIII College World Series.
At the College World Series, CCRI came up against the No. 8, No. 3 and No. 2 nationally ranked teams in the nation. The Knights fell in their first game, losing 6-1 against the No. 3 Rowan College of Gloucester County Roadrunners. In a must win game, CCRI prevailed by beating the No. 2 nationally ranked Herkimer College Generals 6-5.
The 2019 season would come to an end when CCRI fell to the No. 8 ranked Brookhaven College Bears 17-9. An amazing run for the Knights and a great way to announce themselves to the division three ranks.
The CCRI Knights baseball team will look to start their season well and earn a ticket to the NJCAA DIII College World Series second time in as many years. Their first game is slotted for March 5th.
