Charles F. Canning

Charles F. Canning, age 91, of Warwick, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, after a brief illness.  He was the loving husband of Marie G. (Savastano) Canning.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Frederick J. and Beatrice F. (Fisher) Canning, he was a life-long Warwick resident.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1949-1952.
Charles was an electrician and member of IBEW Local 99 for 42 years, first working at the Outlet Co. where he met his wife of 66 years, Marie.  He worked for many electrical contractors during his career, including Liberty Electric for 20 years, and AMTRAK until his retirement in 1995. Charles was a communicant of St. Benedict and St. Kevin Churches in Warwick.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving children, Patricia McGowan (James), Michael Canning (Gail), and Paul Canning (Michelle), all of Warwick; a sister, Gail Chace of Warwick; a brother, John Canning of Smithfield; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  He was the brother of the late Frederick Canning and Francis Canning.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, May 11, in St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick.  Burial with military honors was in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
