Charles F. Ferguson

Charles F. Ferguson, 98, of Warwick and Matunuck passed peacefully away on January 27, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Agnes (Minahan) Ferguson for 63 years.

Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of Andrew and Evelyn (Morrissey) Ferguson. Charlie attended LaSalle Academy ’42 where he played goalie on the hockey team. He left high school to join the US Army during World War II serving honorably as a Drill Instructor while in the states, then as an MP in Australia. He received his HS diploma from LaSalle in 2010 at a ceremony honoring those that had left and served. He was a Commercial Insulation Contractor who also served as President, Vice President and Secretary of the International Heat, Frost and Asbestos Workers, L#31. His efforts helped secure benefits for workers/families affected by asbestos-related diseases. As an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Warwick Council, he served as Corporation President and contributed to multiple committees. Charlie was a former President and Board Member of the RI Football Officials Association and he received the Porter Award for serving this organization with distinction and honor. He was inducted into the Providence Gridiron Club Hall of Fame and received the RI Football Officials Award by the National Football Foundation.

He is survived by his loving children A. Catherine Ferguson, Susan Moore (Rick) and Jeanne Congdon (Bob). He was “Papa” to his 12 grandchildren: Meghan, Bethany, and Richard Moore, Matthew Pescosolido, Benjamin, Michael, and Matthew Congdon, Elizabeth Lindner, Jennifer Frey, John, Kevin and Catherine Stadtler. He also leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren and many special nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Coleman Stadtler and nine siblings: Henry, Raymond, John, Elmer, Andrew, William, Dorothy, Edward and Mary.

His family is grateful to the VNA/CareNE for their excellent care and kindness, especially Rhonda, Laken, Dayra, Mary, Elizabeth and Obie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea, Narragansett, RI at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 followed by a private burial.
