City beaches overcropwded by outsiders

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter on behalf of all my constituents who have called or emailed me with numerous complaints.

Warwick needs to have their beaches back. This has been the worst year we ever had with overcrowding, parking everywhere, the trash, and speeding, and loud noises, just to mention a few.

When it states NO PARKING ANYTIME or NO PARKING on either side then it means NO PARKING.

Cars are coming from other cities and towns with no respect to Warwick. We need more enforcement.

When I drive through City Park or by the Oakland Beach Seawall you can see many out of state plates which is not fair to our residents but that is because Warwick has Free Breaches.

Our beaches are being overrun with large out-of-town crowds who bring their own food or buy local, and leave their litter and trash behind. This is out of control and has created a situation where local residents can’t use their own beaches.

I have been taking many pictures of the parking and trash the Boat Ramp is becoming very dangerous with swimming on both sides of the ramp, with a sign that states NO SWIMMING.

The rules sign has been torn down at the boat ramp and common.

City Park has been overrun with the same problems. Cars are parked almost on top of each other.

I know the police cannot be everywhere, but if you see this call the station, I have.

The neighbors along Seaview Drive near Suburban Parkway and Strand are beside themselves.

We just had to deal with fireworks and had cars parking all over again. NO PARKING either side I counted over 30 cars in that area. The cars have made a parking lot near the OB pumping station we put rocks up and the sign says NO PARKING I counted 14 cars there.

The overcrowding has brought long lines and in which many do not wear masks, we are very concerned with COVID-19.

I was very worried when the Governor stopped some parking at 2 of the State Beaches; we figure more will be coming to Warwick.

I have met with the Mayor and the Chief of Police, Community Police, Public Works and Parks and Rec with a lot of issues we have a lot of work ahead of us.

Please stay safe and follow the rules.

This is exactly why the former Mayor wanted to start charging to go to the beach. Are you surprised that another democrat run city is being destroyed? I’m sure everyone that goes to Oakland Beach from the inner city will read the article and start picking up their trash. It will be spotless moving forward.

Gee, I wonder why the police are not enforcing things? Think they don't want a confrontation from anyone who will claim the parking ticket is a: racist; b: for revenue; c: because they are not from Warwick; d: you get the picture.

    1) start charging non residents

    2) enforce the law with fines

that revenue will pay to hire back some of the city workers laud off and they can then maintain the beach

right now it is open season and with reports like this, I wouldnt even think of attending my own beaches or even parks
