Timothy J. "Timmy" Coogan, 56 of West Shore Road, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. He was the beloved son of Loretta A. (Duggan) Coogan and the late John M. Coogan.

Born in Warwick on August 3, 1968, Timmy was a lifelong resident of Warwick. He attended John Brown Francis Elementary School and proudly graduated from Pilgrim High School in 1989. Raised in a loving and faithful home, he made his confirmation at St. Benedict Church and was a parishioner of St. Kevin Church.

For ten years, Timmy worked at Almacs Super Markets, working first in the market on Airport Road in Warwick and after that location closed, he worked in the market in Garden City, Cranston. After the Almacs in Garden City closed, he worked for ten years at the Shaw's on Bald Hill Road. Living life always to the fullest, Timmy made everyone he met feel loved and appreciated. There was hardly a place in town where he didn't know someone.

After competing in the Special Olympics of Rhode Island events for more than 30 years, he was inducted into the Special Olympics of Rhode Island Hall of Fame in 2016. Over the years, as a member of the Warwick Superstars and then the Trudeau Tigers, Timmy competed in downhill skiing, cycling, sailing, power lifting, and golf events at which his winning performance earned him "more than a couple" gold medals. As a member of Team USA, Timmy competed in national and international events including two World Winter Games.

When he wasn't competing in planned events, Timmy spent lots of time with his mother and brother hiking along the Appalachian Trail, including the Presidential Range, the highest peaks in New England, within the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. He spent many hours biking on the many trails found in Rhode Island. Timmy enjoyed skiing downhill at Waterville Valley in New Hampshire and at Lake Tahoe in California.

For many years, he and his brother, Mick, were Providence Bruins season tickets holders. An avid golfer, Timmy played in many golf tournaments held to raise funds in support of charities other than Special Olympics.

Timmy was loved so much by his family. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother John M. "Mick" Coogan of Swansea, MA. Timmy was the uncle of Nicole M. Coogan (husband Nicholas Durant) and Caitlin A. Hoffman (husband Jonathan), and the great uncle of Jack Hoffman all of New Bedford, MA. He was the nephew of Matthew Manion and Margaret M. "Peggy" Coogan. Predeceased by many aunts and uncles, he is also survived by many cousins. Blessed to be loved by so many, Timmy always considered his brother Mick and nephew Jon to be his best friends.

His family is especially grateful to the staff of the Monterey Home in Bristol and to Hope Health Hospice who lovingly and compassionately cared for Timmy during the past two years.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM in St. Kevin's Church, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Visitation will be held in the Church prior to the funeral mass from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory made to Special Olympics Rhode Island, 370 George Washington Hwy. #1, Smithfield, RI 02917 (or online at www.specialolympicsri.org) would be greatly appreciated.
