Cooney named Rookie of Week

Rhode Island College freshman outfielder Megan Cooney (Warwick) was named the Little East Softball Rookie of the Week for her performance in a 1-1 week for the Anchorwomen.

Cooney played in two games, starting both of them. She went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, a grand slam homer and five RBI as RIC crushed Wells, 15-3, on March 8.

Rhode Island College freshman first baseman John Willette (Johnston) was named the Little East Baseball Rookie of the Week for his performance in a 3-1 week.

He played in four games, starting all of them. Willette batted .308 (4-for-13) with five runs scored, four hits, three homers, seven RBI and four walks.

He notched his first collegiate hit with a grand slam at RIC bested Fontbonne, 11-1, on March 6. Willette homered in a 3-2 win over Husson on March 7 and went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, a homer and two RBI in a 9-8 setback vs. St. Mary’s (MN) on March 8.
