Cranston, Warwick restaurant weeks

Posted

Greater Providence Restaurant Weeks provide serious diners with an opportunity to enjoy new dining experiences at special prices.

There are seven of our area’s finest restaurants participating in this year’s event, which continues through July 23.

Each year we take advantage of the opportunity to try something new, or to return to one of our favorites.

LEGAL SEAFOODS

We first started going to this great seafood restaurant when it was in Boston. Legal recently moved from Warwick to Garden City Center in Cranston.

The restaurant offers a $20 lunch including soup and salad. Try their Asian salad with shrimp.

Dinner is $33 and includes clam chowder, salad, and a seafood casserole or Cajun seafood salad and dessert.

CHAPEL GRILLE

We enjoyed the Chapel Hill elegant venue last year where I had the best salmon chowder I have ever tasted. (It was the only salmon chowder I ever tasted, and it brought me back for more.)

A good assortment of chicken, penne, pork, and salmon dishes will leave you more than satisfied, topped off with huge desserts. Dinner is $34.

AVVIO

The Garden City Italian restaurant has a luncheon special at $25 and dinner at $40; it offers Italian and seafood specials. We have always enjoyed dining at this fine restaurant.

ELIZABETH OF PORTOFINO

One of our all-time favorite restaurants, Elizabeth of Portofino will find Elizabeth there to greet you warmly in her Post Road, Warwick, location.

The food matches the elegantly warm and creative atmosphere. You go through the doors of this strip-mall and enter another world.

Dinner is set at $44.95 and includes two appetizers to die for: three meatballs and calamari. Get both and share.

Main courses of chicken, seafood, steak and veal are as good as it gets. I like the veal and Joyce craves the shrimp.

IRON WORKS

I love Iron Works.

The old ironworks building on Jefferson Blvd. in Warwick was remodeled to perfection, with a huge bar in the middle and intimate dining surrounding it.

Iron Works offers some of the best bargains of Restaurant Weeks. At $29.95, Iron Works offers creative appetizers, dinners and desserts.

You have got to try their unique appetizers, such as California lentil fritters or pulled pork tostadas.

Iron Works has the best meatloaf in the world. Bacon-infused with delicious gravy, it is gourmet meatloaf at its finest. Joyce likes the shrimp jambalaya. Their wood-grilled salmon makes it difficult to choose, so you’ll have to visit them at least twice.

TAVALO

Located at 2099 Post Road in Warwick, Tavalo is relatively new to the scene, but has quickly grown in its popularity.

The restaurant offers a light lunch including soup and salads for $16.95, and a dinner for $30.95 that includes most items that are on their regular menu.

We have not been to Tavalo yet, but are looking forward to their braised beef shank, while Joyce has her eye on the Fruitti del mar.

VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB

The Valley Country Club on New London Ave. in Warwick is also participating this year. As of this writing, their menu and prices had not been posted.
