Crushing defeat is what Democrats needed

To the Editor,

A crushing defeat, just what we needed. No. I’m not being sarcastic. We asked for this. We needed this. And we got it!

I am a true-blue Democrat, but what happened Tuesday night slapped us Democrats in the face with just the hard lesson we truly needed. Barack Obama was a Democratic success story, but it gave the Democrats so much confi- dence that we took a chance on the Biden/Harris ticket.

History will show that as a mistake, with the 20 Biden shell companies, law-breaking Biden family, Hunter’s lap- top scandal, endless “lawfare” attacks against Trump while accusing him of becoming the “dictator” who would order the exact same “prosecution against his political adversaries.”

Leaving Trump under-protected while, at the same time, calling him a “threat to democracy.” It’s no surprise that two insane assassins attempted to kill Trump. Passing the “Inflation reduction Act,” which only raised taxes and increased inflation. Having Biden/Harris’s head of Homeland Security lie about the border being secure while millions of illegal aliens poured in and most recently, a supervisor at FEMA was discovered ordering employees to pass over any victim of the recent hurricane if their home had a Trump sign on it. The Democrats, MY Democrats, had their confidence turn into arrogance. We tried to sell the voters a crock of s*** and they just weren’t buying it.

None of that is what I remember of MY Democrats. Past Democrats from John Kennedy to Bill Clinton were the party of the working people, the middle-class and a vast majority of voters. These new Democrats are the party of the elite, and while they have a ton of money and power, they still only have one vote each.

Hopefully that Democratic Party will return to our roots.

Hopefully we can learn from these mistakes and replace disgusting dirty tricks and name-calling with honesty, credibility and fair play. Hopefully, our next candidate will be entirely focused on policy, not pettiness. Hopefully, that candidate will cater to the vast majority of voters, not just the elite.

Hopefully, we will come out with a “Cut-Taxes – Cut Spending” platform, not a tax-and-spend, choke-the- economy and con the voters into thinking it’s the right move. Hopefully our next candidate will be selected on qualifications, not gender, not color and not just an ability to read a teleprompter.

Let’s face it.

The voters deserve better ... and we sure didn’t give it to them this time.

We need to give it next time. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

Rick Corrente,

Warwick
