The Cranston Western Little League 10-year-old softball All-Stars made the trip to Pennsylvania to compete in the regional tournament and would reach the losers bracket final, going 3-2 overall against some of the top clubs in the northeast. The team finished third overall.

CWLL cruised past Maine in the first game, 14-3. Isabella Marcano, Alexa Okolowitcz, and Angela Field led the way at the plate with two RBI each. Marcano and Olivia Graziano had solid outings in the circle for CWLL, and the defense was stellar as it did not commit an error in the win.

CWLL went right back to work in the second game by beating Massachusetts 13-2. Field and Graziano had big days offensively, racking up three RBI each while Marcano added two. Okolowitcz, Lawson Bastia and Camdyn Speck all knocked in runs as well.

Graziano got the win in the circle while Marcano came on in relief. The two pitchers combined for eight strikeouts.

The team’s biggest win of the summer came in the third game when it came from behind to beat Cain, PA 5-3.

In what was the team’s closest game of the season to that point, CWLL fought back in the sixth inning to erase a two-run deficit to take the lead which would be maintained through the seventh inning.

Okolowitcz, Ella Lamarre, Field and Lawson Bastia knocked in runs for CWLL while Marcano picked up the win in the circle.

“It was an opportunity for the girls to learn how to win a game. The girls have won a lot of games, but that’s the first one that we actually won. They were scrappy, they came back against a pitcher that was getting to them all game leading up to the sixth. It was two dominant pitchers and we proved that we could win a game,” said CWLL coach John Fontaine.

Fontaine was pleased with his team’s overall performance, especially when it came to the pitching.

“The girls have been great. The first two games, they really hit the ball. We have had a few girls this summer that have really hit the ball well. We made a few mistakes in the field, but the difference between the first two games was that our pitching dominated other teams. We gave them something that they had not seen since we have two dominant pitchers on our staff,” Fontaine said.

CWLL would lose its first game of the summer against Pittston Area Little League in the fourth game, falling 5-4. Lamarre and Okolowitcz knocked in runs for CWLL, while Marcano and Graziano combined for 12 strikeouts in the circle.

The team rematched Cain in the losers bracket final and fell 6-2. Marcano led the way with three hits and an RBI while Field also chipped in a run. Marcano pitched for CWLL and racked up 13 strikeouts in the loss.

The CWLL 10’s include: Gabriella Rossi, Hailee Stinson, Ella Lamarre, Alexa Okolowitcz, Isabella Marcano, Olivia Graziano, Camdyn Speck, Angie Field, Lawson Bastia, Julia Fontaine, Juliana Borges, Aria Koenig, Logan Lopes and Isabella Farina.
