Delia Elizabeth McDermott, 53, formerly of Warwick, and lately of Shrewsbury, N.J., passed away January 22, 2011 at home with her family after a 14-month battle with cancer.

Born on July 23, 1957 in Kirkwood, Mo. to Kenneth and Alice McDermott, Delia spent most of her childhood in Edison, N.J., graduating from John P. Stevens High School and Middlesex County College. In 1983 she married and moved to Rhode Island. From 1996 until 2010 she worked as the events marketing manager at the historic Aldrich Mansion in Warwick, residing on the property with her children in a converted 19th century tower overlooking Narragansett Bay.

Delia will be remembered for her devotion to her children; her love of nature, art, music and gardening; her adventurous spirit; and her ability to transform life’s most excruciating challenges into labors of love. Her optimism, humor and realism carried her through the toughest times and are among the brightest legacies she leaves to her loving children, family and friends.

Delia is survived by her three daughters, Morgan Medwin of Pawtucket and Margaux and MacKenzie Medwin of Shrewsbury; sisters Dorian Meyer of Rumson and Danielle Balseiro of Basking Ridge; brothers Duncan McDermott of Woodbine and Damian McDermott of Marlboro; and many extended family members.

There will be no viewing. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 150 River Road, Red Bank, NJ Jan. 27 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
