To the Editor,
“It is the duty of every man, as far as his ability extends, to detect and expose delusion and error” – Thomas Paine
Are Democrats at the local level in denial about the harm being done to our country by Democrats at the national level? That’s the impression I got from reading the list of priorities provided by several Democratic candidates running for office in Warwick. (Election 2024, Oct. 10)
James McElroy states he will “strive to make affordable housing available.” Joseph J. Solomon Jr. also pledges to address the “housing crisis.” Matthew LaMountain wants to “ease inflation’s burden.”
Those are all laudable goals. But it seems these three Democrats are oblivious to the chief cause of the problems they have identified. Namely, that all these problems have been made worse by the terrible policies of Democrats Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
The Biden/Harris open border policies have brought millions of illegal immigrants into our country, all of whom need to be housed. That increased demand has worsened the housing crisis for American citizens. James McElroy is asleep at the switch if he doesn’t realize that.
Biden/Harris socialist economic policies brought us inflation and higher prices. That has made it harder for Rhode Islanders to “afford rent, buy their first home, or stay in their homes as they age.” Mr. Solomon doesn’t seem to grasp that connection; neither does Mr. LaMountain.
And then there is Democrat Mark McKenney. He tries mightily to defend the disastrous Biden/Harris record. But his efforts require a denial of reality. (“What this administration has accomplished,” Oct. 17)
For example, Mr. McKenney wants to excuse Harris for her failure to do her duty and secure the southern border. To do that, he must pretend that “she was never in charge of the border.”
But even Democratic loyalist Bill Clinton isn’t buying that fiction. Clinton has acknowledged that the Biden/Harris failure to properly screen immigrants led to the death of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student who was brutally murdered by one of Kamala’s criminal aliens.
Despite their dismal record, Mr. McKenney insists “There’s more to be done; the work of the Biden/Harris team continues.” But if that’s the case, why break up the team?
Why was the leader of the team, Joe Biden, unceremoniously booted off the ticket? And why didn’t the “fighter,” Kamala Harris, fight for her teammate, Joe Biden? Shouldn’t she have “supported her president” for reelection?
Mark McKenney doesn’t answer any of those questions. That is why I find his endorsement of Kamala Harris completely unpersuasive. Despite his best efforts, McKenney fails to make the case for Kamala.
