Edla V. (Ayers) Fortin

Edla V. (Ayers) Fortin, 91, a longtime resident of Warwick passed away at home on Saturday, January 23, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband John O. Fortin in 1986. Born in Providence, RI she was the daughter of the late William and Edla (Erickson) Ayers.

A graduate of Central High School, Edla began her bookkeeping career in 1946 at RI Dental Supply. She had close to seven decades of experience in bookkeeping retiring from Columbus Door in 2015. She used her skills and teamed up with AARP to help do taxes for low income and elderly clients and to assist in combating Medicaid fraud. Edla had also done the bookkeeping for the family business, Midstate Camera Repair, for 35 years. In 1967,she had trained to become a hairdresser and volunteered at the local hospital to give haircuts to young girls with multiple sclerosis. In her downtime, she enjoyed reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, watching game shows and movies. Edla was most thankful that she was able to remain at her home that she loved because of the thoughtful care of her children.

She is survived by three children: Keith J. Fortin of Warwick, RI, E. Cynthia Bishop and her partner Steven Einhorn of Warwick, RI, Mark A. Fortin of Cumberland, RI and her beloved grandson John W. Bishop. She is predeceased by her sister Mabel Hartley.

Due to the current health restrictions, burial at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be private.
