Evelyn Virginia (Bood) Lofgren, 98, of Warwick, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Saint Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich. She was the beloved wife of the late James W. Lofgren Sr.

Born on November 20, 1922 in Providence, Evelyn was a daughter of the late Carl A. and Hulda C. (Johnson) Bood. Evelyn was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Warwick and previously of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Providence. She lived in Warwick for sixty-eight years.

Evelyn graduated from Central High School in Providence as a member of the Rhode Island Honor Society. She was employed for twenty years by Bank of America. Evelyn had many interests and talents. Her mother had a dressmaking business, taught Evelyn how to sew as a child and she in turn shared all she learned with her family and community. Evelyn loved to make dresses for her children and grandchildren. She sewed all the formalwear for her daughter’s wedding party.

At St. Paul she was part of a team that created liturgical banners for the church interior, decor for the library and quilts for hospitalized children through the Linus Project. Evelyn was passionate about other textile/fiber arts as well, including knitting and weaving. Evelyn loved caring for her garden at home. She enjoyed traveling and a highlight was visiting her parents’ native Sweden. In her later years, she began each day with The Providence Journal, its daily crossword puzzle and her morning cup of coffee. Evelyn cherished her loving family, including her husband Jim Sr., her children, grandchildren and extended family. The highlight for her during vacations and holidays was playing a series of fiercely competitive board games with her visiting grandchildren which often would go late into the night with lots of snacks. She was a seventy-three year member of Pioneer Lodge, Vasa Order of America.

Evelyn is survived by her son James W. Lofgren, Jr. (Sheri) of Duluth, Georgia, daughters Nancy M. Swanson (Paul) of East Greenwich and Janet L. Lofgren of Warwick, grandchildren Lindsey, James III, Kristin and Anna Lofgren and Emily and Lauren Swanson. She was the sister of the late Earle C. Bood, Mildred C. (Bood) McCord, Ethel M. Bood and aunt of the late Russell C. Bood.
