Extreme anti-family policy

To the Editor,

Why do so many Democrat men, many of whom are proud fathers themselves, seem so determined to stop other men from becoming fathers? I would ask newly re-elected State Rep. Evan Shanley to answer that question.

During his campaign, Mr. Shanley, like most Democrats running for office, declared his pro-abortion bone fides. At a candidate debate he announced that he had sponsored legislation that permits abortion at any stage of pregnancy and for any reason.

Abortion on demand, as endorsed by Rep. Shanley, is an extreme anti-family policy. It denies a man the opportunity to become a father.

Ironically, the significance of that lost opportunity is captured in the Christmas card Rep. Shanley just sent to his constituents. The card has a wonderful picture of Shanley surrounded by his lovely wife and their two beautiful children. Mr. Shanley’s face is beaming with fatherly pride.

On his website, Mr. Shanley reflects on the rewards of parenthood. He writes tenderly about how his children have “changed our lives in ways we could not have imagined.” His testimony serves as an argument against abortion.

So where does that leave us? Shanley the proud parent welcomes new life; Shanley the politician legislates to destroy it.

How are we to reconcile these two conflicting visions? Are we to view pregnancy as a blessing or as an intolerable burden? I think Rep. Evan Shanley should answer that question.
