Family vets share stories at St. Rose of Lima School

Veterans Paul Martineau, Army National Guard; Walter Kelly, Air Force and David Parker, Army had front row seats at Thursday’s program.

IN UNIFORM: Sixth grader Delilah Tully gave her cousin Lindsay Laurie who serves in the Army National Guard a token in appreciation of her talk. Students gave gifts to all the speakers.

MAKING THE INTRODUCTION: Eliza Gojcz welcomes her grandmother Joan Iacomo who served as a Navy nurse to the podium. Her grandfather, Vincent Iacono, who likewise served in the Navy, also spoke to students.

ATTENTIVE AUDIENCE: St. Rose of Lima faculty and students observed Veterans Day on Thursday listening to family members of their classmates describe their experiences serving this country.

FATHER AND SON: Fourth grader Abby Gallucci introduced her grandfather, Frederick Linden, a Marine Corps veteran and her great grandfather, Army veteran Calvin Linden. Here Calvin and Fred share stories.

EVENT PLANNER: Teacher Denise Foggo arranged the event bringing veterans and active members into school to talk about their experiences.

There’s nothing like family to gain a personal insight to the military and what it is like to serve this country. That was the intent of the St. Rose of Lima school gathering Thursday where students introduced their parents, grandparents, great grandparents and cousins who had served or are active members in the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps. But then, the event was so much more. Students had the opportunity to show off and talk about family members and veterans and active military offered their own advice to students with more than one saying how important school is.
